Find a material by what you need

This page is a starter index for the materials needed by the live guides. It does not try to list every Sandustry material or recipe. The Official Wiki continues to change, so an entry appears only when its source, transformation or production use is supported by a current official source.

The index is organized by user task. Start with what you are trying to produce or move, then open a focused route. This avoids presenting a long alphabetical list that cannot answer whether an entry is complete.

Read each relationship from left to right. A source tells you where a material begins; a transformation tells you what must contact or process it; a production use tells you why the material matters. These fields are verified independently. Knowing one use does not prove every source, and finding a natural source does not prove a renewable route. The separation prevents a partially documented material from looking complete.

Find materials by production use

Water and liquid systems

Water can come from confirmed source categories including natural Water, Ice, Steam rain and Lumlings. Water also combines with Sand to form Wet Sand and with Seed to form Wet Seed. For network design, open the Water guide; for renewable generation through Snow and Steam, open Renewable Water.

Steam is connected to Water and Lava. Steam reaching the sky can form Water or rain, while Water touching Lava can produce Steam. These are material reactions, not proof that one Pipe layout handles every part of the chain.

Lava cannot use normal Pipe and Pump transport. Snow can change Lava through Scoria into Cinder, which can be moved as a solid and relit. Open How to transport Lava for the state-change route.

Plants and early production

Seed is a Kinetic Press output and combines with Water to form Wet Seed. Wet Seed can grow into a Flower when placed in a Planter Box. The Flower head contains Amethelis and Gold. Open Flowers, Seeds and Planter Boxes for the complete relationship and its automation boundary.

Red and Void materials

Redsand has a confirmed natural relationship with Redsoil and a renewable relationship with a moving Redweaver. Open the Redsand guide for acquisition, renewability and its separately verified downstream use.

Renewable, natural and unknown

These labels answer different questions and must not be merged.

  • Natural means the material has a confirmed world source. It does not automatically mean the source replenishes.
  • Renewable means a repeatable production relationship is confirmed. It does not promise unlimited throughput, zero maintenance or a specific rate.
  • Version sensitive means the relationship may remain useful while quantities, timing or geometry change.
  • Unknown means the project has not completed the required entity-level verification.

For example, Redsand from Redsoil is a confirmed natural route, while a moving Redweaver provides a renewable route. The word “renewable” describes the source behavior; it does not establish a best enclosure size or output per minute. Similarly, a Cryoblaster-based Snow and Steam loop is a supported renewable Water direction, but the current guide labels it slow and does not give a fixed rate.

Open a verified detail route

Use the detail guides when the task needs an ordered build or troubleshooting sequence:

The parent index and detail pages have different responsibilities. This page answers “where should I look?” A detail page answers “what sequence should I test?” Neither should invent a field simply to make a card appear complete.

When two routes share a material, choose the detail page by the failed boundary. If Water never reaches a destination, use liquid transport. If Water arrives but a reaction does not occur, use the material or production guide. This keeps the same verified relationship reusable without copying an entire guide into the index.

What is still unknown

For each material, the useful questions are the same: What is its official name? Where does it occur naturally? Can it be produced repeatedly? Which machines accept or produce it? What does it react with? How can it move, and what can stop the route? A material does not need every answer before it can be useful, but this page marks important missing answers instead of filling them with assumptions.

Copper, Void Juice, Auralite Crystal and Fluxite are common material searches, but their complete current-version chains are not ready for this index. They stay out until their sources, transformations and uses can be checked together; search snippets and old revisions are not enough.

When a material is missing from the index

That is why some materials have full routes while others do not appear yet. A popular search can point to a useful question, but it cannot turn an unverified recipe into a safe answer.
